(Photo 1) Joy Spirit Hawk and Don White Wolf have moved and are living in a one room cabin at the top of a mountain in Pickens county. They are getting an acre of land close buy to build a cabin on, hopefully starting in the spring.
In the meantime they are getting this little cabin livable as it was only used for storage and a studio. (Photo 2) This is the latest photo. You can see the completed addition that Don was working on in photo 1.
They first built a deluxe outhouse and have running water outside to the cabin. No plumbing, heat etc.
Don has now built a small extra room onto the cabin for a bathroom and Christmas Eve Night Joy Spirit Hawk got to take a hot bath in her little high back clawfoot bathtub for the first time. She said it "makes you feel like you are in a western movie." Running water into the kitchen area and a bathroom sink to boot!
Joy Spirit Hawk continues, "People sure take everyday pleasures for granted, and do not realize what they really have. I give thanks to our Great Spirit and our Mother Earth for her blood that runs through her and moistens our lips and lives. Anyway, the wood stove is keeping us warm (especially in the loft where the bed is) during these unsually cold days and we keep on creating. Our work becomes our Love made visible."
Getting ready to build!
There was nothing on the land but trees, the little cabin in the picture is Dons shop which he built first. It is right beside the cabin site. This cabin is going to be board and batten just like his shop. We do not like log cabins, as we are living in one right now (see above) as we build and do not like it.
We have had to clear over a hundred trees, the larger ones will be taken to the sawmill to be cut into boards for the interior of the cabin. Remember, we are doing all of this ourselves, no contractor or builder. People are asking us why is it taking so long...well, we only have 4 hands and we still have to work and make a living!
