Welcome to the Home page of the PAIA Lower Eastern Cherokee Nation of South Carolina. Please enjoy your visit to our site and return often.
We are located at 3688 Warrior Creek Church Road in Gray Court, SC 29645, Exit 10 off I-385*, follow the signs. We are the first property on the left on Warrior Creek Church Road. Our office hours are from 9:00 A.M. till 3:00 P.M. Monday through Saturday. Our phone number 1-864-683-1421. We own 3.6 acres of land where we operate a craft store, a museum, and tribal office. Our Chief is Chief Gene Norris and our Vice Chief is Mary Louise Worthy.
We have a Pow Wow each year, and it is open to the public. At this time we are working on a Living Village. We are very active with the other Indian organizations in the State of South Carolina and have been since the 1980's. We have members living in most of the counties in South Carolina, but most of our members live in the Upstate. We have been chartered since April 24, 1984. We were state-recognized in 2006. We are the descendants of the Lower Town Cherokee People.
*Due to construction on I-385 N, if you are coming from Columbia or Charleston, you cannot take I-385 N from I-26 W. You must stay on I-26 W and take Exit 44 (SC 49 Laurens) and then turn left onto SC 49. Follow SC 49 until SC 221 where you will turn right. Stay on SC 221 until to come to Metric Road (our sign is on the right side of the road, pointing left). Turn left on Metric Road and then right on Warrior Creek Church Road (our sign will also point out this direction). Construction is supposed to continue until August 2010.
Our web site is made possible by a donation from
tribal members, Fred and Betsy McDowell. Please visit
